Refit & Retrofit: existing equipment, renewed controls.
The machine still works. Its controls are ageing. GCG updates obsolete PLC, HMI, I/O and drive technology where retaining the installation is technically sound. In industry, this is retrofit or modernization. On board, it is refit.

Our three-step approach
Work on an existing installation is also called brownfield. Greenfield refers to a new installation. The main difference is the existing equipment and interfaces that the engineering must accommodate.
Technical scan
Assess the existing installation and agree the scope, functional specification and changeover plan.
Engineering & FAT
Engineer the new control system and test it at the factory (Factory Acceptance Test).
Commissioning & SAT
On-site installation and a Site Acceptance Test before handover.
Related expertise
Industrial retrofit
An existing machine or installation does not necessarily need replacing because its controls are outdated. We assess which mechanical parts, wiring and components can remain and which controls need updating.
The scope can include PLC and HMI replacement, I/O, drives, networks, electrical drawings/EPLAN and software migration. Testing, commissioning and production restart are planned around the agreed changeover window.
Marine refit
A refit provides an opportunity to update ageing onboard controls selectively. Changes are coordinated with existing vessel systems, available documentation and the yard schedule.
Work may include PLC/HMI upgrades, electrical modifications, lighting and control integration, and network and IT/OT modernization.
What we don't do
We do not carry out a retrofit without a signed functional specification.
We do not hand over a retrofit without a passed SAT.
We do not build control panels based on verbal agreements alone.
